Tehran, Ankara enjoy deep-rooted ties: FM Amirabdollahian

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has described Tehran-Ankara ties as deep-rooted, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic relations between the two countries.

Amirabdollahian made the comment in a memo he wrote for Turkish Newspaper Milliyet as Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi visits Ankara on Wednesday at the invitation of his counterpart Recep Tayyib Erdogan for talks mainly focusing on economic cooperation between the two neighbors.

The top Iranian diplomat wrote that expanding relations with neighboring countries, especially Turkiye, within a balanced foreign policy framework, dynamic diplomacy, and intelligent interaction, is one of the top priorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Describing Iran and Turkiye as two influential countries in the region due to their geopolitical positions, Amirabdollahian underlined that Tehran and Ankara enjoy deep-rooted historical ties and share many cultural, historical, and religious commonalities.

It is worth noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Turkiye face common challenges and issues in the region, making it necessary for them to strengthen mutual cooperation, he underlined.

One of those issues is Palestine, the Iranian foreign minister said, adding that Tehran and Ankara can boost their cooperation in that regard through supporting the oppressed Palestinian people, and to help strengthen convergence among Islamic countries to confront the apartheid Israeli regime and stop its crimes and genocide against people of Gaza.
